I purchased this thermometer to use for accurate measurement of mash temperature in home brewing beer. I soon realized it was the best meat thermometer I have ever had for cooking and smoking meats. The really nice feature for cooking is the 8" probe which keeps your hand far enough away while taking the temperature to keep from getting burned.
I have had it for over two years and use it very often. The battery specs say it will last for one year of continuous use. I am still on the first battery and if that holds true I will probably never have to replace the battery.
I have used a lot of digital and analog thermometers over the last few decades and by far this is the best and most accurate probe thermometer I have used except for one expensive lab mercury thermometer which I broke after a few months of owning it. (most inexpensive "lab" thermometers using red dyed petrolate in place of mercury and are notoriously inaccurate.)
Best of all the price is extremely low for this quality and accuracy. You can get a version of this thermometer that is even more accurate for double the money but + or - .02% is far more accurate than most of us need.
