I wanted a nontoxic placement that didn't have bold colors and that would match my table runners (I change my table runners throughout the year and each has a graphic pattern in bright colors). I chose this mat and it is perfect. Up close you see a white swirl but from a few feet away it just looks like a sleek white/clear placemat.

If it were up to me, I might prefer fabric placements, but with a 4 year old at the table, this is the perfect solution. They wash well and so far have held up to daily multi-use. Highly recommend for those looking for chemical-free (or chemical-reduced) table options.
