One Tap Picnic Hombrew Kegerator Fully Assembled Review

I bought this as I was getting sick of bottling and this was a complete system with one of the cheaper prices I've seen. The CO2 tank I received was new. The keg was used and had pin lock disconnects. I was able to get off the gas/liquid valves with some effort, though I immediately ordered a "pin lock socket tool". They can be had for $10 + S/H. The pressure relief seems to be automatic for pin lock, but you can get around this by pushing in the center of the gas valve with your thumb or a screwdriver to slowly let air/pressure out if need be.

Back to the review. The keg had a cup or two of what I can only assume was extremely old soda. It smelled like old cabbage. Really old and already digested cabbage. Really bad. I soaked with PBW overnight, and also soaked all the fittings and stuff in PBW solution as well. I replaced all the o-rings with the new ones they provided. I put on some lubricant on the lid o-ring to get a good seal. I had a really tough time, and actually thought something was broken. I don't know if the lid is a bit warped or if they're all like this, but while pulling up and then increasing pressure from the CO2 tank, it finally sealed and started filling up. I was clumsy the first time I used it, but it all seems pretty easy and straightforward now.

Purchased one of these as a cheap experiment for my one gallon test batches. Wanted to use it as a fermentor and it has been through one brew so far.

This is very flexible and keeping it standing while trying to pour wort through a funnel is challenging. (Needed extra hands.)

This is very flexible so any movement or carrying it to fermentation room means you could suck liquid out of the air lock.

The neck does actually pop up to so that is not indented into the container.

After one brew and it has already picked up hop and malt aromas even after a soak in oxyclean.

Might use again, but really looking for something more sturdy since I move my containers around and need room to use a thief for gravity/taste testing.

The Atago 2382 MASTER-20T is a handheld, portable refractometer with a Brix scale that measures in the 0.0 to 20.0% range, has automatic temperature compensation (ATC), a spoon-shaped tip for automatic smooth sampling (ASD), and a metal body. A Brix refractometer measures the refractive index of a solution in a sample, converts it to sugar concentration in units of percent by weight (% Brix, also known as degrees Brix), and displays the results. Hand-held refractometers, also known as sugar meters, concentration meters, or Brix meters, are commonly used in the culinary, food and beverage, pharmaceutical, educational, geological, chemical, and ecological industries, and for water-testing applications.

This refractometer is housed in a durable, die-cast aluminum metal body for heat and organic solvent resistance. The 2382 MASTER-20T features ATC for immediate, accurate readings, regardless of ambient temperature. Calibration can be controlled and adjusted with an exposed calibration screw and an included specialized screwdriver, although other items can be used to unscrew the unit. However, the unit retains its water-resistance. A spoon-shaped tip allows for automatic sample distribution (ASD) across the prism and boundary line (also called measurement line) for accurate, smooth sampling with small portions, and sample disposal from the edge. With ASD, the daylight plate does not need to be lifted to cover the prism with the sample. The outer shell grip is smooth and easy to clean, which reduces the possibility of food and sample entrapment, avoiding contamination and bacterial growth. The analog Brix scale features a bright, high-contrast display for clear visibility of the boundary and memory lines intersection. Samples are viewed through a monocular, focusable, cushioned eyepiece. The unit includes a protective plastic storage case with a foam cut-out insert to cushion the instrument.

Gilda Compression Corker Review

I bought this corker when I did my fist batch of homemade mead. I've used it with normal wine bottles of all shapes and sizes including thin ice wine bottles. Once you get the hang of it it goes very quickly. All you do is:

-1) make sure you have your own glass of wine poured. Bottling is always a little more fun that way

1) flip the corker over and put in a cork (has worked fine with both synthetic and natural corks)
2)pull the two red handles together to compress the cork (this is very similar to a floor corker and where this differentiates from the double leaver corkers which don't compress the cork
3) with the cork compressed into a thin cylinder position the bottle beneath the corker
4) use one hand to keep the red handles close together (they don't have to touch all the way) and use your free hand to push the leaver down ejecting the cork into the neck of the bottle.

It seems to take about the right amount of time to have a friend filling bottles while you cork them and after a couple tries you'll probably even have a few sips from your glass in between corkings.

Beyond the ease of use the product seems to be exceptionally well made. The plastic is very thick as is the metal leaver. It has a fair number of moving parts, but they all seem sturdy through several batches.

The one thing I did have a little trouble with and the reason I'm giving 4 stars and not 5 is that it can sometimes be hard to get a perfect finish height. There is an adjustment if you're going too deep, but I had much more of an issue with not getting the corks quite all the way in. I had several bottles come out with a 1/4 inch cork sticking out because just as the last bit of cork is ejected from the compression section of the corker it expands and doesn't quite make it into the bottle. Not a huge deal it even makes it look a little more home made, but if you're a perfectionist it could bother you.
