I've had this kegerator for close to a year...and here is what I've found. If you're wanting a kegerator that can hold a 1/2 barrel (large keg) at a budget price... this is the kegerator for you... but be prepared to drop another $100 on hardware.
Simply put... the refrigerator part of this kegerator is top notch. I've used 1/6, 1/4, and 1/2 barrels and all are kept frosty cold. I even store it on my screened in porch, and the warm Atlanta weather has not worn out the motor yet. If I were to rate it on refrigeration alone...this would get 5 stars from me.
Unfortunately, the hardware began wearing down after 6 months. For those of you who are inexperienced with Kegerators... it's often difficult to determine the cause of C02 leaks...or faulty connections.
I spent countless hours re-configuring, reconnecting, and disassembling the kegerator to determine why it would stop pouring. When it was all said and done... I lost 2 entire C02 tanks ($40 worth of refills) due to the cheap hardware that comes with the kegerator.
After six months, it became apparent that the coupler itself was leaking CO2 out of the pressure pin. The regulator was also leaking CO2 out of the PSI adjustment screw joint. Additionaly, this regulator ONLY has a gauge for PSI... but doesn't have a gauge on how much CO2 is left in your tank. I went online and bought a stainless steel keg coupler, and a new CO2 regulator with a dual gauge... installed them...and it works MUCH better than ever before. In fact... I'd argue that it works better than anyone else's that I've drank out of.
It makes sense when you think about it... Magic Chef is a 'fridge company. They make an excellent product... but they are also a business trying to make a bottom line. They can give you a high quality unit that will keep your beer cold because they save money by cutting corners with hardware vendors that offer a cheap product.
Do yourself a favor and buy this product. Immediately go online and find a stainless steel coupler and a dual gauge regulator. You'll be about $600 in... but you'll have the quality and pourability of a kegerator that you'd likely spend $1000-1200 for. Good luck, and cheers!
