I was looking for something to protect my new laminate counter top but all of the items advertised as counter mats were either too small or too boring so I started looking at placemats. I wanted something that would wipe clean and wouldn't slide around so that eliminated all of the fabric placemats. Then I stumbled onto these cork mats with a laminated top and decided to give them a try. They did slide around a bit on my shiny counter top so I put round rubber "bumpers" on each corner. That not only solved the sliding problem but it also raised them up enough so I can put hot items on them without fear of damaging my counter top. Two on one side of my sink and one on the other side gives me all the work space that I need, they wipe clean with a damp cloth just as advertised, and they look fantastic on my dark brown counter top.
