I find this mat to be pretty ugly, and so have the plain side up. Whatever, it's a dish mat.

That said, I think if I ever do replace it, it'll be for aesthetic reasons. Functionally, this is great. I don't have a dish rack at all, and just put the dishes directly on this to dry. I used to use a dishtowel, but it would get soaked through very quickly, and scum would accumulate between the towel and the counter. This doesn't soak all the way through, and seems to allow the water to evaporate more quickly, so it doesn't get gross.

I see another reviewer says this is a little bit larger than a dishtowel, but it's definitely less long than my dishtowels. This is actually good -- it's just an inch-ish shorter than my standard depth counters, so it doesn't hang off the edge, but it nearly reaches the edge. (My kitchen towels hung off the edge.) Width is similar, but I do feel like I have less drying area with this than I do with a dishtowel.

Overall, this seems well-priced for its functionality, but since there are additional well-rated options at a similar price, you could probably just pick on what you find attractive...
