From a distance these look like they are either embroidered or appliqued on but they are not, they are woven in as part of the lace. This looks best over a contrasting solid color tablecloth so the design really pops. Orange is great for a taditional look, purple and red look best (in my opinion), lighter grey looks nice if you want a very subtle effect, off-white, ecru, beige or a tea stained cloth gave it an "aged" appearance but I didn't like white (it seemed too stark).

I usually go with the deep purples and deep reds to contrast with all the black I use because it just looks better with my haunted mansion/vampire lair theme. I do throw in some "aged" off-white (I use tea or coffee stained cheese cloth which I buy by the bolt at the fabric store) to create the look of old disintegrating drapes.

I have purchased several Heritage Lace Halloween items, namely everything I can find in the bat and spider web motifs, and they are all excellent quality. Umm, I take that back. YOU don't want to buy any of this stuff. Seriously, take it out of your cart right now because it's mine I tell you, ALL MINE. MY PRECIOUS!!!!!
