These placemats impress me for lying flat on the table, and their size is great as well. They are woven evenly with a consistant thickness, and I think it's what makes them lay flat. They have a natural fiber look to them that is appealing, but can be sponged off without affecting their shapelike with some natural fibers. Who wants a placemat that doesn't lay flat or clean up well? Just my opinion, but rectangular placemats are boring.
